"A Wind in the Door" Review

"A Wind in the Door" is written by Madeline L'Engle and is about 3 humans and a cherubim who try to save a little boy who is doomed to die. The book is about 200 pages and is not very exciting or anything along those lines. The author does not pack a lot of action or plot into this, which makes the story seem even shorter than it is. The only thing I really have to say about this book is that it's not worth getting it if you are a teenager. However, for children 5th grade and up, this book is fine. "A Wind in the Door" is also written with a Christian perspective and has some obvious  parallelisms with the real world and Christianity today. "For the Win" Review

"For the Win" is a book by Cory Doctorow and is about the making of a union, the Webblies, where many workers (mostly in Asia) unite and fight for better wages and better working conditions. Also, the book takes you into the protests and strikes of people in the union. The protesters stand strong, even though they are beaten, shot, and arrested. This book also has many subplots and shows the lives of many gold farmers who are people who play games like MMORPG's and sell the items and gold they earn in those games for real money. This book also shows the bad conditions and pay of people in China and India. The author takes you to many different places and situations of different people and connects every single person to everyone else. It also delves into the economies of different games.

I know that my summary sounded a bit confusing, but that is because it is not really that easy to summarize. I enjoyed this book. One of the things I like about this book is that it explains how economies work and how inflation works, in order to help the reader understand what is going on in the book even better. If you read this book, you will definitely learn something. Also, this book reveals a lot about corruption and I like how the author takes you into the union protests and shows how the unionized people stand together for what they believe in. The characters are well- formed and very dynamic. This book is good, but I wouldn't say it is the best around. This book is not one of those really thrilling books that keep you on your seat for a long time.It is really long and I believe only teens should read it. "Schooled" Review

"Schooled" is a book written by Gordon Korman who has a lot of written works. This book is about a hippie, Capricorn "Cap" Anderson, whose grandmother falls and goes to the hospital. Because he, who is 13, is left alone at home with no one to watch him, he is turned over to a guidance counselor who works for Child Services. Cap, because he cannot be taught by his hospitalized grandmother, has to go to the local public middle school. Cap is in for a surprise because he is not used to regular middle school. He encounters people who find him weird and a nerd and people who make fun of him for the ways he dresses and what he does. In this school it is a tradition to elect the biggest nerd as the president of the school in order to make him have stress and watch him fail. As people make fun of Cap (Cap doesn't even get the jokes aimed at him) and bother Cap, they see the true Cap, the one who is strong and doesn't fall under the heavy attacks from his schoolmates. As this happens, some of Cap's enemies become his friends. Soon enough, everyone begins to love Cap and what he does as president.

I love this book! I really enjoyed the plot. I love how Cap handles the situations and I love how his heart is so pure, when compared to the people being mean to him. I really recommend this book to children and teens. Even though my description of the book might have been maybe a little too revealing, I am sure it will not ruin your experience with this book. I could not possibly list all the awesome parts of this book! Get "Schooled" here!
